The “El Niño” Phenomenon

“El Niño” is a natural climate phenomenon that raises the temperature of the waters in the Pacific Ocean, changing wind patterns and cloud cover.

For Uruguay, this means a significant increase in the amount and intensity of rainfall, severe storms, and river flooding between late 2026 and early 2027, directly affecting the northern part of the country.

Consequences for the Light-Community

The impact on the Light-Community could be significant, including situations such as: isolation, power outages, communication failures, shortages of water and food, as well as damage to infrastructure.

Emergency Plan and How to Help

To prepare for this period, we are organizing a contingency plan that includes expanding our water storage capacity, securing alternative power sources, maintaining food reserves by area, and stockpiling materials for immediate repairs in the event of any breakdowns.

Therefore, we are launching an emergency campaign to meet these needs:

• Storage of non-perishable foods

• Storage of water - Installation of new water tanks

• Storage of fuels: gas and diesel for generators, tractors and machines

• Security equipment: canvas, ropes, tools, repairing materials
